worth spending £16 to hire a bike in Braemar, then cycling to Derry lodge, makes the return trip so much faster (18 mins from derry lodge to the car park)

Done as a ski tour in stunning conditions on the 12th of december 2009. Blue skis, plenty of snow and a temperature inversion! What more could you want!

Long circuit expedition from ski centre on a gloriously clear day. Bumped into some reindeer on the way to the plateau, easily gained Macdui to spectacular 360 views of the Lairig Ghru. With such weather Derry Cairngorm beckoned, and a deceptively quick descent to the bealach (looking back up it seems a LONG way to return!) led to a beautiful summit moment as the wind quietened and the serenity of the landscape sucked us in. Eschewing the slog back up to the McDui summit, we dropped into the glen between Macdui and Cairngorm and here saw some incredible cliffs, the gigantic mass of the plateau we had earlier traversed hewn along its flank, exposing the ancient strata. A brief scramble up a river gully and a 45 minute traverse brought us to the shoulder of Cairngorm, the summit temptingly close, but with the weather clearly about to change violently we reluctantly passed it by and returned down the spur to the ski centre. Awesome day.

A good few years ago, whilst I was in the venture scouts, we did a '4 peaks challenge' for charity. The walk started in the ski centre car park, heading across the Chalamain pass towards the Lairig Ghru. Crossed over and up Braeriach. Round towards Angels Peak and Cairn Toul then descending down to Corrour Bothy. Next up Taillear's burn to Ben Macdui. Across plateau to Cairn Gorm and down to car park. Think it was 16-17 hours. In retrospect, should have included Devils Point, although I seem to recall being absolutely knackered by that point! Survived on Tesco's 'Kick' drink. Try it out!

Me and a friend climbed Ben Macdui combined with Cairn a Mhaim and Derry Cairngorm on the 03/05/2008. The journey was bodywrenching! souldrenching! (private joke) and the route was crazy to say the least. The 3 peaks were amazing, each providing spectacular views! However this is by far an easy trek taking just under 21 miles. 8 of which are over mountains! Although at the time my legs were unbearably sore and the journey seemed never ending. Looking back it was spectacular and i've pushed myself to things i never knew i was capable of.

Myself and my buddy Jethro both climbed Ben Macdui for the first time in July. We started at the ski centre car park and walked up onto the plateau via the ridge to the east of Lurchers crag then navigated by map and compass to the summit due to poor visibility of twenty feet and less. Wild and wet day, no views but was made more memorable by meeting another old friend on his way up just as we were walking down through the clag!! A wee walk across the plateau and down via the summit of Cairngorm and Coire Cas finished a good day.

A friend and I climbed Ben MacDui on 11th March from the Coire Cas Car Park via Coire an Lochan. It turned into a bit of an adventure: visibility was as far as your own two feet, with spin drift blasting you in the face. We could not have completed this route safely without a GPS to give a point of reference. The whole route took ten hours of marching head down on a compass bearing. We walked off in the dark to the last car in the car park. What an epic.

Climbed in February 2004 in very poor visibility with little snow lower down but more around the bowl of March Burn; even broke though the snow into the burn on the way down. Crossed over to Cairngorm to complete a long day via the many corries. In poor visibilty, good navigation is essential as the Cairngorm plateau is pretty featureless when you can see only 20yds ahead.

Took the path up the Coire Cas fiacill ridge which is well maintained. Went over the ridges of Coires Sneachda and Lochaine and joined up to the path that comes along the bottom of the two Coires from the Lurchers crag at Lochan Buidhe where some French Grand Randonneurs were enjoying a repas !Headed up to the top through the Asteroid belt to the Summit. Then headed back along the same path to the back of Coire an Lochaine and took the secondary path back. A busy day on the Hill and warm as well 07 08 2003

We climbed Ben Macdui along with Carn a'Mhaim and Derry Cairngorm from the Linn of Dee. A long route made more difficult by the strong NW gale force winds, especially over the bouldery summits. A rewarding day out with fine 360deg views over varying ground and a short but enjoyable ridge walk.
